Strong dollar 'driving Aussies to Vietnam'
20 April 2007  Increasing numbers of travellers are opting to visit Vietnam, it has been claimed, with the increase in tourists from Australia outpacing that for most other countries worldwide.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that 2006 saw a 21 per cent increase in travellers from Australia visiting the country, with the total figure exceeding 11,000.

Near to the Australian coast, the paper notes that the country is especially cheap as a result of the strong Australian dollar, while not being overcrowded like other close destinations like Bali.

The Australian government advises those looking to visit Vietnam to ensure they have purchased comprehensive travel insurance and acquired a visa before their arrival in the country.

"Persons attempting to enter Vietnam without a valid visa are generally sent back to their last port of departure by Vietnamese authorities," the department of foreign affairs and trade warns.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism advertises a range of tours for visitors from around the world, including those themed around culture, sport, adventure and the 1959-1975 Vietnam war.
