Choosing when to travel
22 July 2006  Forget June, July and August, the months from September to November appear to be the new time to travel it seems, for those looking to save cash and avoid the crowds.

Increasing numbers of travellers who have the flexibility are choosing to change their vacation dates to take trips outside of the busy summer months, USA Today reports.

According to Consultant Sabre Airline Solutions the numbers of airline bookings made by American travellers for the months of September to November this year, are up five per cent on this time last year.

The Caribbean, Hawaii and Europe are proving particularly popular with America travellers wanting to take trips out of season, whether for reasons of weather, pricing or to avoid summer crowds

Manager of American travel agents Dillard's Travel, Linda Criswell, said: "Boomers, singles, even honeymooners are changing their dates (from summer) because of the better fares, better values, better hotels and more choices for their money."

While head of Virgin Atlantic's North American operations, Bill King, commented that advance bookings for Virgin economy-class tickets in the September to November period are now up ten per cent from last year.

According to Travel & Leisure magazine's awards 2006, the world's best city is Florence, while New York is the best city in the US and the best island on the planet is Bali.
