Bali and Thailand tourists advised to use charitable reservations directory
17 August 2007  Holidaymakers heading to Bali or Thailand this year could possibly do their bit to help those less fortunate in the country they are visiting by using a unique accommodation reservation service.

When tourists book their accommodation through the Travel Ethos site, the booking fee involved is paid directly to a local children's charity in Thailand or Bali.

"[Travel Ethos] made a name for itself supporting where possible hotels and villas that were legal and ethical in every respect," the company reports.

It adds that some hotels in the region withhold service charges that should be paid to their often impoverished staff and founder Mark Austin has urged hotels in the region to list their business on his site.

Charities supported by Travel Ethos include the Bali's Children Project - whose motto is "Escaping poverty through education" - and the Human Development Foundation Mercy Centre in Thailand that supports children living in slums.
