Australians split on airport security
19 October 2006
Australians picking up their travel insurance and flying abroad are divided over the security measures imposed at the airport, according to a recent poll by an online travel directory.
The survey by TotalTravel.com found that while 26 per cent of those surveyed felt that there was too many security measures at airports causing travellers inconvenience, 36 per cent felt there was just the right amount of security and 40 per cent thought that there was not enough.
Paul Fisher, global marketing manager for the website, said: "You've got a large chunk of people feeling very inconvenienced to the point where they may potentially alter their travel plans.
"Then you've got other people who think it's not tight enough to the point where they might not travel."
He added that five years on the events of September 11th still had an effect on the way Australian travellers viewed security.
A recent survey by Synovate found that 58 per cent of Australians felt a terrorist incident would occur onboard in the near future.
Last summer AA Travel Insurance advised holidaymakers not to panic in the event of any security alerts and to check any relevant policy details with their insurance provider.
