Australian students get taste of American life12 January 2007
Australians curious about the parallel lives of those in the USA may be inspired by a report of 22 students and their teachers travelling to America on a three-week tour, to pick up their travel insurance and join a group travel program.The Educational World Travel scheme is designed to encourage exchanges between students in order to foster an understanding of alternative cultures, the North County Times report.
Martina Hall, drama teacher at Port Hacking High School in Sydney, from where the students travelled from, told the newspaper that the group was "privileged" to visit the San Marcos High School
"It's important for our students to see that life at high school in America is not like [the movie] Mean Girls," she said.
"I'm glad we got to set the misconceptions straight," she added.
Last month, the Courier Mail warned that Australian travellers in foreign countries can be hit by large ATM withdrawal fees if taking out their money abroad.
