Aussies 'prefer luxury accommodation'17 August 2007
The majority of Australians picking up their travel insurance and heading abroad are likely to splash out some of their holiday funds on their accommodation, with it reported that 75 per cent of travellers prefer to stay in top-range hotels.Recently published research from HotelClub.com reveals that two-thirds of holidaymakers would choose to stay in four-star accommodation when travelling.
Furthermore, increasing numbers of travellers are opting to book their accommodation online and pick up the opinions of others before deciding where to stay.
Chloe Lim, managing director of the firm, said: "Savvy travellers are placing more value on other travellers' thoughts and recommendations - word of mouth is beginning to play an even greater role thanks to the ease of communication provided by the internet."
She added that the internet had resulted in a revolutionary transformation in Australian travel, with an increase in choice and changes to the way people choose their destination.
In 2005, a survey of gap year travellers from Lonely Planet revealed that 57 per cent will book their own holiday online, more than double the 26 per cent who still book their trip with a travel agent.
