Aussie holidaymakers stick with old favourites
18 January 2007
Australians purchasing travel insurance and going abroad or taking a domestic trip are sticking with their usual favoured destinations, it has been claimed.
Data from accommodation provider Wotif.com found that destinations for both domestic and overseas bookings have remained more-or-less unchanged in the past 12 months, Australian Associated Press reports.
The company revealed that neighbour New Zealand was the most popular overseas destination, followed by the UK, Singapor, Hong Kong and Thailand, making the top five list the same as that for a year before.
In domestic travel, the top five again comprised of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Adelaide.
Graeme Wood, chief executive of Wotif.com, said: "There was a not a lot of movement in the list year-on-year.
"City centres and popular leisure destinations continue to thrive."
He added that the figures revealed a trend towards short-term last-minute travel to city breaks.
Holidaymakers, including those with travel insurance, can make use of recommendations from Tourism New Zealand for a range of driving routes based on trips around the north, south or all of the country.
