Air New Zealand boasts new technology to aid flights
03 May 2007  Australians hopping across the Tasman Sea to visit New Zealand in the future may have an easier run of things in bad weather, as Air New Zealand reports the fitting of new technology to its Boeing 737 fleet.

Flights that may have previously been delayed or cancelled as a result of poor weather or visibility may now be able to proceed as normal as a result of the new navigation system on the six aircraft.

Phil Hickman, manager of fleet support at Air New Zealand, commented that the technology had already been used to facilitate the travel of passengers in conditions that previously would have left them grounded.

"On Friday it also meant that despite low cloud we could still land a flight into Queenstown," he said.

"In the past it would have been diverted to Invercargill."

The firm reports that travellers were previously inconvenienced by adversely affected services resulting from bad weather in Queenstown on over 36 days a year.

More Than advises holidaymakers to purchase their travel insurance policy at the same time as they book their holiday to protect themselves against the risk of cancellation.
